The Higg Index database is the apparel, footwear, and textiles industry's most widely adopted standardized measurement framework for evaluating social and environmental performance across the supply chain. These tools, built by Cascale with extensive industry collaboration, measure everything from water use and carbon emissions to labor practices. This makes it possible to have a unified language for sustainability benchmarking. Over 40,000 organizations worldwide use the Higg Index to make environmental and social reporting clear and easy to compare.
What it takes to be included
To be listed in the Higg Materials Sustainability Index (MSI), companies must send comprehensive life cycle assessment (LCA) data on their products. Independent third-party reviewers evaluate this information to ensure accuracy and consistency. Metrics include the effects on chemistry, greenhouse gas emissions, water use, and energy demand. Only when the assessment is complete and verified is a material added to the database for use by brands and manufacturers.
